The Health Word

aspartame

What do you think about Splenda? I heard that it is not supposed to be not as bad as aspartame. I think it's actually derived from sugar but bonded with chlorine or something.

That is a great question!  I'll give you a simple rule to follow when it comes to selecting foods and food additives: Does it come from nature? The answer in relation to Splenda is NO.  It was developed by Johnson and Johnson the makers of the ever famous baby oil and shampoo and my personal favorite, the Q-tip.  As for their ability to create a healthy chemically altered sugar substitute, NO.

Of the 92 studies done on Sucralose (the active ingredient in Splenda) 70 of them had no relation to human health and of the others no studies conducted on humans lasted more than 4 DAYS! That is ludacris.  I'd encourage you to try Stevia (my favourite low-cal sweetener), saccharine (one of the oldest no cal sweetners form nature) or simple raw cane sugar.
