That is a great question! I'll give you a simple rule to follow when it comes to selecting foods and food additives: Does it come from nature? The answer in relation to Splenda is NO. It was developed by Johnson and Johnson the makers of the ever famous baby oil and shampoo and my personal favorite, the Q-tip. As for their ability to create a healthy chemically altered sugar substitute, NO.
Of the 92 studies done on Sucralose (the active ingredient in Splenda) 70 of them had no relation to human health and of the others no studies conducted on humans lasted more than 4 DAYS! That is ludacris. I'd encourage you to try Stevia (my favourite low-cal sweetener), saccharine (one of the oldest no cal sweetners form nature) or simple raw cane sugar.

Great Question! Back Pain is usually the easiest symptom resolved by Chiropractic Care but in some cases the underlying damage to the discs and vertebrae are severe enough that the answer isn't so black and white. Unlike skin, muscle and bone joints lack high levels of blood supply meaning they are the slowest to heal and the easiest to injure. You spine is made up of over 150 joints! You can imagine how easy it is to injure any number of them. I've had patients who have "blown out" discs that were consistent and very compliant with my home care recommendations and their healing took 8 months. It is tough tissue until you injure it. But the end outcome was 90% better than if that patient had opted for surgery which for laminectomies has a 90% failure rate.
Sylvia,
This is something I see in my office every day and the solution can be very easy. The pain you are describing sounds every bit like Sciatica. The sciatic nerve is the thickest nerve in the body. It is made up from the spinal nerves exiting various parts of the low back and pelvis region. Only a small portion of these nerves elicit a pain signal, the majority control key organ systems and vessels in your lower body. The sciatic nerve innervates the femoral arteries and interference in it can cause constriction of the femoral arteries raising blood pressure. I see it every day.
The problem with the common treatments like 1. Specific stretches are they only cover up the pain symptom (which is warning your body something is wrong) or 2. Drugs which simply prolong the symptoms while doing damage to the liver and kidneys. I would consult your local Wellness Chiropractor who would do a thorough physical exam and take any neccessary X-Rays to determine the severity of the injury to your lower back and sacroiliac joints.

Hello Stephanie,
I'm glad you like the website! It is my mission to bring the word HEALTH back to it's original meaning. Healthcare is really Sickcare and I hope to explode our current paradigm of health here in N.America.
Regarding your questions. I am a Doctor of Chiropractic. I practice at a clinic in SW Washington near Portland Oregon. Cleansing is a way to purge toxins from our body. I feel that a daily supplemental "Greens" Shake is an essential beginning. If you are taking medication then a daily liver cleanse tablet is great. They contain beet juice extract and milk thistle as main ingredients.
I feel that for the average human, a heavy metal cleanse and liver and colon cleanse are important to do quarterly. EDTA is a powerful chelation cleanse designed to rid the body of heavy metals. Colon Cleanses and Colon Hydrotherapy are a great way to scruff the insides of our intestines and liver cleansing rids the liver and body of toxins.

Let me first say that your situation more complicated than a paragraph can answer. The overuse and misuse of antibiotics has been a known and documented problem in the medical field for the last two decades and it hasn't gotten any better. I implore you to seek out a Naturopathic Physician and a wellness based Chiropractic Physician to help you cleanse the toxins inside your body. Here is what they will likely do for you:
They will help you find the appropriate Pro-Biotic (live cultured intestinal bacteria) which will greatly increase immune function and promote an acid fast environment in your gut killing all the bad stuff.
They will help your body become alkaline with a greens supplement so that your cells have the best environment to thrive and they will eliminate foods in your diet that aren't fit for you.
The Chiropractor will check your nervous system for interference which can be effecting every cell, tissue and organ system in your body and make a game plan for correction.

Great question!
Here is a rule to remember. THE DEEPER THE ROOT, THE BETTER THE FRUIT. Or I should clarify and say the less toxic the fruit. Strawberries have been shown in some studies to have some of the most toxins when compared to other fruits. This fast is intended to promote clean foods to detoxify the body. I'm not wholly against the strawberry and enjoy some myself from time to time. I chose organically grown berries but that is still not a absolute safeguard. In designing this fast I wanted to pick the best and brightest of every food and herb. A great many foods didn't make the cut. I encourage you to experiment with fasting. It can be a great way to purge unhealthy habits and toxins from your body leaving you clean and vital.

Good news! Yes! I see this a great deal and I've always reccommend the same thing. TEA TREE OIL. Take a bucket of warm water, drop 6-8 drops of tea tree oil in it and let your feet soak for 15 minutes twice a day. After you're finished soaking your feet douse a cotton cloth with the tea tree oil and smother all the crevices between your toes and toe nails. I would go as far as smothering the whole foot. After a good smothering let your feet dry put on cotton socks and away you go. The treatment can work as quick as 4 days and take as long as one month depending on the severity and your general hygiene. Try to give your feet air as often as you can.
Yours in health and happy feet,
Dr.M
